Bio

My name is Liz Harter and I am a recent of Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana with a Bachelor of Arts in English Writing and a minor in Spanish. I have lived in a variety of different places on the East Coast and in the Midwest, but currently reside in Mishawaka, In.

I am the Social Media Manager for the University of Notre Dame. I have a five year background in social media marketing and currently run the highest level accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and others for the academic side of the university. I’m also well versed in the intricacies of corporate public relations and the use of social media to drive sales and increase visibility for a global technology company.

I specialize in writing and editing with an emphasis on hard news, press releases and 140 characters. In addition, I have experience as a point-and-shoot photographer, having shot movie premieres, landscapes, meetings and headshots, and with designing brochures and advertisements.

As a student at Saint Mary’s College, I spent a year as the Saint Mary’s News Editor of The Observer, the only independent newspaper serving the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s. I also was a news writer for four years and a copy editor for three years at the newspaper, which has a daily circulation of over 10,000. Occasionally, I wrote reviews for the entertainment section as well.

My internships included a two staff reporter positions with the South Bend Tribune in the Features and Metro departments. I spent Summer 2008 writing feature stories, predominantly for the Family and Faith, and Health sections, 15 of which appeared on the front page of the section. I returned to the Tribune for my Spring 2009 semester to hold a staff reporting internship in the Metro section. In that position, I wrote 10 news stories pertaining to the local community, three of which ran on the front page of the Local section.

I also had a year-long internship as a writer for the Saint Mary’s College Development Office. I wrote copy for the Development Office to use in mailings, and I created a brochure for the Saint Mary’s varsity alumnae and an advertisement for the Annual Fund in the Courier, the College’s Alumnae magazine.

My work repeatedly went out over the UWire and the mailings I created for the Development Office were sent to thousands of alumnae and friends of Saint Mary’s College.

In 2009, I won an Indiana Collegiate Press Award in the Best In-Depth Reporting Category for the work I did uncovering and reporting on a stipend for student government executives, which were elected positions that historically would not receive personal salaries.

In 2011, I was awarded a Quixote Award by Cincom Systems, Inc. The Quixote Award recognizes the top 10% of performers in the global technology company.
